Qatar Navigation will provide regular shipping service to transport the products of Qatar Aluminum (Qatalum) to and from the UAE. They have entered into a long-term contract of affreightment for sea-borne transportation covering Qatalum"s export from the Mesaieed port to UAE ports and back, a joint statement said The contract was signed by Qatalum CEO Truls Gautesen and Qatar Navigation CEO Khalifa Ali al-Hetmi.
Qatalum"s plant at Mesaieed has an annual production capacity of 585,000mn tonnes of primary aluminum in the first phase and shipments will begin in the last quarter using a container terminal "Container Terminal Seven", specially constructed by Mesaieed Industrial City using two ship-to-shore cranes.
Qatar Navigation has a fleet of 19 units including cellularised container vessels, barges and tugs. It is taking delivery this year four new container vessels of 1,015 TEUs (20ft equivalent units).
