Rotterdam Steel Port in Antwerp

The Port of Rotterdam Authority is taking part in the second "Steel Logistics Conference", co-organised by the trade magazine "Metal Bulletin", which will be held from 22 to 24 September.

After its launch last year in Rotterdam, it is now the turn of Antwerp, where the venue will be the Hilton Hotel. The Port Authority"s involvement this year focuses on publicising Rotterdam"s ambition to grow substantially in the transshipment and further handling of steel. To achieve this, there are, and will be in the near future, three new terminals available: DFDS, Steinweg and Gevelco (see map).

The features and ambitions of "Rotterdam Steel Port' will be presented during the conference, on 23 September, by Emile Hoogsteden, Director of Containers, Breakbulk, Logistics with the Port of Rotterdam Authority. The port authority will also be sponsoring the conference lunch on the same day.

The processing of steel products is increasing steadily throughout the world, with production at 1.5 billion tonnes in 2007. Countries such as China, Brazil, Russia and India are increasing their exports. This gives rise to the need for more transshipment capacity beyond the "traditional steel port' of Antwerp.
