Russian Maritime Register of Shipping (RS) will hold the XII International Seminar Quality Shipping: XXI Century Standard. Safety and Marine Environment Protection: Prospects We Face.

Globalization of the world economy requires appropriate coordinated measures to solve the problems inevitably going along with human activity, and, primarily, maritime industry, due to its scale and complexity hardly comparable with other sectors of transport infrastructure.

«In terms of the global financial crisis the international maritime community goes forward in enhancing the existing maritime and environmental safety standards, as well as in developing and implementing the new ones. The approach is determined not only by the development of modern technologies, experience of implementing the decisions taken and the growing demands in sea passenger and cargo transportation accumulated, but first and foremost by urge in minimizing fleet accident rate and ensuring the proper image of the maritime industry», - emphasized RS Director General Nikolay Reshetov.

What new international instruments have already been created and require immediate implementation, what standards are today being developed by the leading experts of the industry, what challenges members of the shipping industry are to face and how to achieve the set goals? A discussion on these and other important issues will encourage shipowners to cope with the arising changes of the industry.

Completion by IMO of the 1st stage of the goal-based design and construction standards for bulk carriers and oil tankers, measures on further GHG emissions control, future integration of e-navigation, new IMO Ship Recycling Convention, long range ship identification and tracking system are among the most urgent issues to be discussed at the coming event.

RS calls for cooperation all the members of the industry and invites to participate in the XII International Seminar that will take place 21-22 October 2009 in St. Petersburg.
