Russian warships in Gulf of Aden put on sea piracy alert.
Russian warships patrolling the Gulf of Aden have been put on the alert, a Navy representative told on Friday. ?The warships were put on the alert due to the intensified activity of sea pirates off the Horn of Africa and the Gulf of Aden,? he said. ?Warships and auxiliary vessels of three fleets are ensuring navigation safety in that area at present.?
?The Navy command has decided to keep the Admiral Chabanenko large anti-sub ship of the North Fleet in the Gulf of Aden until further notice. The warship is escorting five civilian vessels through pirate-infested waters. The Neustrashimy patrol ship of the Baltic Fleet and the SB-36 auxiliary vessel of the Black Sea Fleet and the Olekma vessel of the Baltic Fleet are fulfilling the anti-piracy mission in the same area,? he said.
