The United Kingdom Hydrographic Office (UKHO) has asked other organisations to assist in further developing its marine geographic information business, SeaZone Solutions (SeaZone).
SeaZone was established in response to a market need for digital marine mapping and has built an established customer base within the private and public sectors in the UK and increasingly overseas.
Its business range includes geographic information products, software and services. The UKHO claimed that SeaZone HydroSpatial was rapidly becoming the 'de facto' standard for digital marine reference information outside of that required for navigation.
In order to grow its business further and to offer worldwide capability, SeaZone is seeking one or more strategic partners with a global presence.
SeaZone specialises in the Marine GIS data, software and services market and is claimed to be the world leader in the provision of marine datasets.
The business supports numerous public and private sector organisations across a range of planning, regulatory, engineering and asset management activities.
It is primarily focused on the UK Marine GIS market, has a turnover of about £1 mill and employs around 20 people.
The UKHO expected that increased development activity in the energy sector and marine legislation will continue to drive the market for Marine GIS and provide the business with significant future opportunities in the UK and overseas.
