Patriot, the first example of the new Damen ASD 2310 compact shiphandling tug, is now in service at the port of Odessa in the Ukraine.

"Patriot" is the first tug built to the new Damen ASD 2310 design. This smaller version of the popular ASD 2411 was introduced to fill a gap in the market for a smaller, less powerful, vessel.

The 22.73m long Patriot is powered by Caterpillar 3512B TA diesels of 4,023bhp (total) to achieve a bollard pull of 47 tons ahead and 45.3 tons astern. This is the first of two tugs built for the owners Tekom Leasing LLC. A second vessel is due for delivery in January 2010.

Damen Shipyards Gorinchem is in the process of delivering four "Stan Tug 2208" tugs to the Egyptian Navy. The 22m twin screw vessels have a bollard pull of about 40 tons. The deal includes some customisation to the basic design and extensive crew training.

In 1982, the Egyptian Navy purchased four Stan Tug IV tugs from Damen and those vessels are still in service. Damen delivered the first new tug, Galal Desouky, at the beginning of November, with the rest to follow at the end of 2009 and the middle of 2010.

The Dutch Coastguard has chartered the multi-role anchor handling tug Esvagt Connector as a temporary replacement for the fire damaged Emergency Towing Vessel (ETV) Waker, that has now been sold for scrap.

Built in 2000, the 56.64m Esvagt Connector has a bollard pull of 107 tons and provision for up to 300 survivors. Svitzer, the contractor to the Dutch government for the operation of an ETV in the Dutch sector of the North Sea, has chartered the vessel until the end of the year.

The Voith tractor tug Rotesand, formerly part of the URAG fleet in Bremen, has joined the UK fleet of Marine Services (Grimsby) Ltd. Renamed Tes, the tug is the most powerful addition to the Grimsby based fleet. Rotesand was built in 1978, a twin unit Voith tractor of 30.48m LOA, with 2,400bhp with a bollard pull of 34 tons. Tes replaces a smaller Grimsby tractor tug Leslene, sold for scrap earlier in the year.
