Somali pirates seize product tanker.
SAUDI product tanker Al Nisr Al Saudi was captured by Somali pirates on Monday, EU Navfor has confirmed this morning. The vessel has a crew of 14 on board, with the master a Greek national and the others of nationality yet to be established.
The 1993-built, 5,136 dwt tanker was in ballast at the time of the hijack, and thought to be en route from Japan to Jeddah. Ownership details were not immediately available.
It had not registered its transit with the authorities and was outside the Internationally Recommended Transit Corridor when it was taken. It is believed to be anchored off the Somali town of Garacad.
