French naval forces have thwarted the hijacking of a Mitsui O.S.K. Lines Ltd. (MOL) suezmax in the Gulf of Aden.
Armed pirates had apparently attempted to board the crude oil-carrying African Ruby off the Somali coast Tuesday.
Reports said that a French frigate received a distress call from African Ruby and sent a military helicopter which fired warning shots at two high-speed craft before arresting nine gunmen.
The nine pirates are now being held by the French Navy.
According to Sea-Web, African Ruby is a 1994-built 150,173 dwt suezmax flagged in Panama, and owned and operated by MOL.
