Royal Dutch Shell has made a $3 billion takeover offer for coal seam gas producer Arrow Energy, although the talks ended in a stalemate. The oil giant discussed acquiring Arrow several weeks ago as part of wider talks about investing further in Arrow's assets, the article said. Shell may make a revised approach, the paper said.
Last week, Arrow said it had talked to parties about a possible takeover, but it had not received an offer and was not aware if one would emerge. Arrow sold 30 per cent of its Australian coal seam gas assets to Shell last year.
The Anglo-Dutch major has long been touted as an obvious suitor for Arrow, given its plans to build one of five liquefied natural gas terminals to be fed with coal seam gas at Gladstone in Queensland.
