One person has died and two others were missing after an oil tanker exploded at a fishing port in east China"s Shandong province, according to Xinhua.
The tanker, Hai"ao No.9, exploded at 14.30 when the crew on board were replacing valves on the deck, causing a fire which was eventually put out. One person died in the explosion and the two others are missing.
The municipal city office of Dongying city declined to disclose how many seafarers were on board the ship and whether the deceased and missing people are crew on board.
An official from the municipal city office of Dongying city told on the phone that the 1,000dwt, Chinese flagged tanker had no cargo on board when the incident happened.
The cause of the blast remained unknown, however investigators suspect it was caused by the sailors cutting metal and replacing valves.
