Abramovich has placed an order for a yacht more than 160 metres long
Roman Abramovich, the owner of Chelsea football club, who is planning to build the biggest private yacht in the world - even though he owns three of the largest already afloat.
According to well-informed sources in marine circles, Abramovich has placed an order for a yacht more than 160 metres long, about one and a half lengths of a football pitch. He already has Pelorus, the fifth largest, and Le Grand Bleu, the sixth largest afloat.
The project, codenamed Secret, is causing such a stir that some yacht-watchers claim Abramovich wants two new giant yachts, plus a vast support vessel to carry fuel and all the toys, such as powerboats and helicopters. Those rumours, though, are believed to be wide of the mark.
The plans for the world's biggest yacht have been drawn up. When completed, it will just outstrip the present record holder, the 160-metre Platinum, commissioned by Prince Jefri Bolkiah of Brunei and now owned by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al-Maktoum, the Crown Prince of Dubai.
