Three seafarers dead on product tanker.
Three seafarers are reported to have died of suspected food poisoning aboard a product tanker transiting through the English Channel toward the port of Rotterdam.
The master of the 2006-built, 37,627 dwt Arionas informed the French coastguard of the deaths on Tuesday night.
The vessel, which was on its way from Cyprus to Rotterdam with a cargo of 27,580 tonnes of fuel, was redirected towards the port of Le Havre, where it was lying in a waiting zone outside the port this morning.
The maritime prefecture in Cherbourg has sent a team of two gendarmes and a doctor aboard the vessel to investigate.
The vessel is managed by Piraeus-based Capital Ship Management and its owner is listed as Carnation Shipping, also of Piraeus.
