ISTANBUL-BURSA IN JUST 75 MINUTES
The first one of two ferries built at a cost of $110 million in Australia has arrived in Istanbul, the daily Milliyet reported. The express ferry named ‘Osmangazi' reduces travel time from Istanbul, Yenikap? to Bursa, Güzelyal? to 75 minutes.
Workers of the Istanbul Seabus Company (IDO) welcomed the ferry with flowers. It is reported that the ferry will enter the fleet on April 21 with a ceremony at which Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdo?an will attend. Güzelyal? Wharf built by Bursa Municipality cost YTL 20 million.
The ferry's journey to Turkey, setting out from Perth in Australia and crossing the Indian Ocean, Suez Canal and the Red Sea to arrive in Istanbul, lasted about 20 days. ‘Osmangazi' equipped with the most advanced technologies in the world has a capacity to carry 1,200 passengers and 225 vehicles. The ferry, 88 meters in length, can reach a speed of 36 knots (about 67 km/hour) fully loaded and has two-story lounge. The second ferry is expected in June.
