Total Petrochemicals was seen buying a large amount of gasoline in the Houston area for delivery in the next two cycles shipping on the Colonial Pipeline, trade sources said. The French refiner was seen buying about 150,000 gallons of conventional M4 gasoline for delivery in the fifth cycle, which begins shipping on Jan. 16, and a similar amount for the sixth cycle, which ships on Jan. 20, sources said. Traders said that wholesale differentials of conventional gasoline were about a penny higher on the buying, trading at 1.75 cents under the February NYMEX RBOB screen.
Earlier Friday, Total said in a filing with state regulators that an unidentified unit would be shut down for 3 weeks at its 232,000 barrel-per-day refinery in Port Arthur, Texas.
In the filing with the Texas Commission for Environmental Quality, the company said a unit in Area 1 would be closed beginning on Jan. 9 and ending on Jan. 30.
A company spokesman said he was unable to comment.
