TRAILER BRIDGE ADDS SHIP TO FLEET
Trailer Bridge Inc. will deploy an additional triplestack box carrier ship to augment its Puerto Rico service and add the Dominican Republic to the markets it serves. The new service is expected to begin in the third quarter.
The additional triplestack box carrier, with a capacity of 281 53-foot containers, will represent a 20.5 percent increase in total capacity to all markets. The company will have five vessels deployed in liner service, with two remaining triplestack box carrier vessels available for charter or additional liner service expansion.
Besides linking the ports of Jacksonville and Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic, the new service will connect San Juan with Puerto Plata and provide additional service between Jacksonville and San Juan.
Trailer Bridge will begin taking delivery of 1,000 new 53-foot containers and 850 new 53-foot chassis in May. The new equipment will enable the newly deployed vessel to be fully utilized.
The Dominican Republic, with a population of more than nine million, has a $74 billion economy that grew 7.2 percent in 2006, according to Trailer Bridge.
