Turkey to purchase new missiles
U.S. Department of Defense submitted an authorization notification to the U.S. Congress for the sale of 51 Block II Tactical Harpoon missiles to the Turkish Naval Forces.
The estimated cost for the sale is 159 million USD.
"Turkey will use these missiles to augment its present Harpoon missile inventory and enhance its anti-ship warfare capability," said the U.S. Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) regarding such sale, in a written statement.
According to the statement, containers, test sets and support equipment, spare and repair parts, publications and technical data, maintenance, personnel training and training equipment, as well as logistics support will also be provided to Turkey within the framework of the sale.
"This proposed sale will not adversely affect either the military balance in the region or U.S. efforts to encourage a negotiated settlement of the Cyprus question," the statement underscored.
