UN piracy group to meet in New York .
THE UN Contact Group on Somali piracy will hold its fifth plenary in New York tomorrow, the US State Department has confirmed in an official statement.
Some 50 nations and international organisations will meet at UN headquarters in the city, with Norway chairing the gathering, which marks the group"s first anniversary.
The State Department pointed out that the group has doubled in size in the 12 months since its inception, a development which it described as ?a testament to the global consensus that piracy poses a shared security challenge to maritime safety?.
It added: ?The United States supports prosecution-related efforts, as well as capacity-building programmes to help countries in the region and elsewhere become more self-sufficient in confronting pirate attacks and prosecuting suspected pirate and their enablers.?
