Unisea continues aggressive bulker buildup

Unisea continues aggressive bulker buildup
Low key Greek outfit Unisea Shipping has been busy dipping into the dry bulk market.

Broking sources say the line has just added the 10 year old Japanese build, Nord Leader, from Japanese owner Misuga Kauin for $11.75m and the three years younger Nord Glory for some $3m more from another Japanese company, Kotobuki Kaiun, continuing where it left of last week when the Athens based outfit was linked in reports to a former Hanjin supramax, the seven year old, 56,000 dwt Ocean Leader for $15m, a ship that has been circulated for sale for the past three months.

In recent months Unisea also made a move into the bigger bulk segments, adding another ten year old ship, the 82,400 dwt bulker Ocean Phoenix I and renaming it Oceanic. The shy outfit added its first bulker in years in early 2016, when prices were at their lowest and has since then been busy looking for more.

If the new ships are confirmed Unisea will have added six supramaxes since the start of last year. Unisea is more known for its involvement in tankers than in dry with eight tankers in its fleet.
