Uzmar has delivered tug to Karachi
Uzmar has delivered a tug with a ceremony held in uzmar shipyard located in Kocaeli. Both sides showed their intereset and attended ceremony with governmental participants.

Uzmar has delivered a tug with a ceremony held in Uzmar Shipyard located in Kocaeli. Both sides showed their intereset and attended ceremony with governmental participants. Turkish Undersecretary of Maritime Affairs Hasan Naibo?lu, Maritime Transport General Manager Özkan Poyraz, Shipbuilding General Manager Ya?ar Duran Ayka?, Pakistani Marine and Port Ministry Undersecretary Captan Amjad Ali, President and Vice President of Karachi Port Administration Nasreen Haque and Jamshed Zaidi as well as many guest from maritime industry attended the ceremony.

KPT had identified an urgent and vital requirement for high powered floating craft, including tugs and pilot boats, to keep the port operational during the annual monsoon season between May and September. KPT chose Uzmar for a rapid delivery and Uzmar finished tug in 6 months.

Although the original requirement called for two tugs with a minimum bollard pull of 60 tons Uzmar fulfilled the order with vessels built to an established ASD 3070E design of 75 tons bollard pull.

The specification is that of a terminal and shiphandling tug with FiFi 1 fire fighting capability, also suitable for of coastal towage, escort duties and supplying fresh water. Built to a Robert Allan design, the vessels will be 30.25m in length overall, with a 11.75m beam and maximum draft at speed of 5.8m. Two Caterpillar 3516B HD DITA C rated diesels generate a total of 5,435bhp (4,000bKw) to drive a pair of fully azimuthing propulsion units incorporating controllable pitch propellers. Towing winches are fitted fore and aft to maximise the use of the 70 tons bollard pull.

It is expected that both Turkey and Pakistan will get profit when Maritime Industry experiences hard days due to global economic crisis. Uzmar has provided this opportunity for both sides and feels honorable to wide Turkish-Pakistani export.

Turkish Maritime Affairs Undersecretary Hasan Naibo?lu started his speech by carrying best wishes of Transportation Minister Binali Y?ld?r?m. He mentions about Turkey' success at shipbuilding that She gets 4th rank in the world in terms of orders and 10th place in terms of tonnage in 2008. Immediately after, he announced his wishes about recovery of global maritime industry. After he thanked Uzmar, he mentioned about Turkish-Pakistani historic relationship and thanks them for their help in our War of Independence.

Uzmar" General Manager Captain Altay Altu? conqrated KPT to have this tug and he also wishes recovery for maritime industry.

President of Karachi Port Administration Nasreen Haque emphasized importance of Karachi Port that built in 1887. She explains that it covers 60 percent of Pakistani trade, which is hopeful for future; therefore it is their responsibility to improve port both in national and global level. She also mentioned about success of port that its container level increased 37 percent and dry bulk level increased 25 percent. She express his wishes about Turkish-Pakistani friendship and remind two countries tight historic, religious, cultural and economic relations.
