Zacchello family to refocus on tankers

Zacchello family to refocus on tankers
The sale of the kamsarmax bulk carrier Tiare (83,700 dwt; built 2009) is another step forward for the Zacchello family to exit the dry bulk market.

Claudio Baccichetti, ceo of Motia Compagnia di Navigazione, told Splash the ship was being sold at the company’s own volition, not as some bank-mandated sale as some UK brokers have suggested.

Baccichetti (who is the son of Graziella Zacchello and cousin of Silvia and Antonio Zacchello) explained that the company’s strategy is to refocus on the tanker market and that several offers coming from various potential buyers have been already received. According to online pricing platform VesselsValue.com the current price of the bulk carrier might be in the range of $17-18m.

The Italian shipping company Motia Compagnia di Navigazione presently owns a fleet of seven tankers (six MR and one small clean tanker) while the Amsterdam-based Marwave Shipmanagement (lead by Silvia Zacchello) manages a modern fleet of 14 ships (seven product tankers, four aframax tankers and three bulk carriers, ranging in size from 34,000 to 120,000 dwt.
